No Hampsters

Things We Don't Want To See Here

nohampsters.jpg

PLEASE DO NOT LET THE FOLLOWING INTIMIDATE YOU OR KEEP YOU FROM COMING IN THE ROOM!!!!

This is a Creative Writing room.  Meaning most people in here will be posting multiple paragraph posts.  We do understand that not everyone is at the same writing level, however if you at least try we will help you to become a better writer.  That said, if you only want to write one word or one line posts, then please do yourself and us a favor and find another room to play in.

We also do not tolerate: People doing the ‘I suck’ thing in room, no excessive trolling for RP with no actual RP, excessive OOC chatter in room when there is RP going on as it distracts from RP. If you have questions, use our Private Messaging system to convey them.  This is a Role Playing Room, OOC chatter distracts from that.  Excessive distractions will be dealt with harshly if necessary.  You have been warned.

Why don’t we tolerate the whining? Well gee… a whiner just brings the mood down.  Depression happens, but if you constantly post the I suck, I’m no good bullshit in the room, other people will start to get sucked in… If you Kill the RP we will ban you… You have been warned.

We do not tolerate hampsters.

What is a Hampster?  RP term Hampster: Someone that idly trolls in the room with no desire or intent to ever RP and really only lurks there to cause trouble; someone that posts nothing but one line posts and shows no desire or ability to actually write; excessive god moders – twinks – zippy – total relationship no substance Rpers, that can’t be bothered to write anything more than kiss/smut fest with no meat, no reason other than gratuitous sexuality.  Basically someone that has no business Rping at all much less in our room.  You want to pull that crap, go to Yahoo with the rest of the Bot Trolls.  Thank you.

This is not to say that we do not want any relationship RP.  However, it should be a natural progression of the story, something that has DEVELOPED.  Characters interact and evolve and change, this should be taken into consideration.  However relationships for the sake of doing that kind of RP are frowned upon because they do not always make the best stories.  We’re all story whores here.  Note that anything beyond kissing must be taken to PMs, and if you have a student at Hogwart’s that is trying to get their groove on, it is ill advised to do that doing the school year as there are rules, curfews and things in place that make it very difficult for such things to happen.  This is not a gratuitous smutfest people, do not treat it as such.  If you abuse that, you will be banned.

Mary Sue: (definition from Wikipedia)

Characters labeled as a "Mary Sue" have what are seen as exaggerated and annoying (and sometimes impossible) levels of superiority, especially in comparison to the other characters, to real people in similar situations, or both. While "Mary Sue" is a subjective term, there are nonetheless many traits commonly associated with the concept of the "Mary Sue".

Typically, characters most commonly labeled as "Mary Sues" are set apart from others in the story by their unique and exceptional skills and traits. Mary Sues are extremely physically attractive, and their appearance may include an unusual "natural" hair or eye color. (Eyes may also be depicted changing colors according to time, place, emotion, or other causes.). Exotic names are not an unusual trait. They may be a race which is uncommon or unknown in the story's setting, or even a hybrid of two or more species. They may have unusual pets or magical possessions, often simply to increase their perceived specialness compared to the other characters.

Many Mary Sues have skills remarkably like the canon characters, often considerably more advanced than what would be expected of their age group in canon or the real world. These skills are usually received without need for practice or experience. Mary Sues are usually presented as highly moral, sometimes sacrificing their lives or happiness for the sake of other characters, even when this Western viewpoint would be uncommon for the setting of the story.

Tragic backgrounds are also common among Mary Sues, which frequently include family abuse or neglect, or, in fan fiction, relations to major canon characters through blood or strangely contrived family ties.

Another widely accepted symptom of Mary Sue-ness in a character is his or her similarities to his or her author, such as shared hobbies, likes and dislikes, and opinions, and the same nationality or age. Many alleged Mary Sues, however, have more dramatized physical appearances, backgrounds, and hobbies than those of their authors, which characterize them as resembling more the author's ideal person rather than the author him or herself.

Mary Sues sometimes display a degree of self-insertion, especially in fan fiction, where they often cause things to happen that the author wishes would occur in canon. They may mock and humiliate characters the author dislikes, or recognize generally disliked characters (e.g. villains) that the author likes as merely misunderstood or troubled. Mary Sues may bring together characters the author thinks should be romantically involved with one another or become romantically involved with characters to whom the author is attracted.

To further emphasize the superiority of Mary Sues to the other characters, authors will frequently describe their looks, life, and aptitudes not only in great detail, but frequently, have other characters notice their looks even when they usually wouldn't, and make them admired and praised by other characters in the story. Mary Sue characters typically never display any of the dysfunctional psychological profiles often associated with tragic backgrounds. If these characters have flaws or limitations, they are either minor and/or endearing quirks (such as a fiery disposition), or yet another hardship for them to effortlessly overcome (e.g. paraplegia, depression, an eating disorder).

On A Side Note As A Reminder: Any confrontational business should happen in Private Messages or on an Instant Messenger system.  Do not air people’s dirty laundry in the public forum of the room.  You will be banned.  Handle things maturely, keep it private and only involve the moderators of the room as is necessary… Any useless, emo nonsense will not be tolerated – you have been warned.

Be respectful of your fellow Rpers and of the Staff of the room.  If you cannot respect them, then you cannot play here, it is as simple as that.  Any arguing and purposeful starting of fights to cause drama will result in banning starting at 24 hours per violation and going all the way up to Perma - Ban if the act is serious enough.  You have been warned.
